Magnesium hydroxide is a colorless hexagonal crystal or white powder, which is heated to 350°C and loses water to produce magnesium oxide. As an important inorganic chemical product, magnesium hydroxide is called “environment-friendly” environmental treatment agent because of its strong buffering performance, high activity and adsorption capacity, safe handling and non-corrosive, non-toxic, non-hazardous and many other unique properties. The main component of natural mineral magnesite is magnesium hydroxide, which is one of the minerals with the highest magnesium content found in nature.

Magnesium hydroxide is prepared by grinding magnesite into magnesite powder (150 μm), and then crushed to 1~26 μm powder (magnesium hydroxide modified by surfactant) by magnesite micronizing. This magnesium hydroxide manufacturing process is simple and less expensive. This method produces heavy magnesium hydroxide. This method is mainly used to produce magnesium hydroxide in the northeast of China.
